About

IMG_9025_cropped.jpg

Originally from the suburbs of Philadelphia, I graduated from Boston University with my BFA in painting in May of 2016.

My interest in art lies in the exploration of self as well as in the physical construction of paintings. I seek out therapeutic craft practices and attempt to elevate them to the level of fine arts through the experimental mixture of media. I work not only with paints but with embroidery, weaving, ceramics, wood, and bisque pottery as well. Often these and other forms of art will come together in one piece, linked by color, pattern, or a unifying thread. Through a process of visually and physically breaking down and reconstructing a subject, which is often rooted in a deeply personal place, I am able to create something that is both structurally unique and personally rewarding.

I am also highly interested in the practice of coming to know another through the art of portraiture. To sit with someone else, and to look at them with the intensity of an artist studying her subject, yields interesting information about the sitter and my relationship to him/her. Rarely do I feel such vulnerability on both sides of an interaction as I do when creating a portrait from life.

Even with all this in mind, I try not to take myself too seriously and enjoy making ridiculous work from time to time.

My artistic influences include, but are not limited to, Vincent van Gogh, Henri Matisse, Alice Neel, Marc Chagall, and Madge Gill.

Aside from painting, my interests include cats and dogs, books, wine, memes, and comfort foods.
